We provide accommodations for groups of all sorts.

The Gilmer Retreat Center is Avery County Habitat for Humanity’s accommodation center that sleeps up to 38.

The center was built in 2005 when the need for overnight accommodations for out-of-town work groups volunteering with the affiliate became apparent. It is named after Barrett and Dudley Gilmer - two long time donors, supporters, and volunteers of Avery Habitat. Since its completion, Avery Habitat has been able to host thousands of volunteers through group travel including church groups, college groups, school groups, recreational groups, and more. The Gilmer Retreat Center is open year-round and provides a one-of-a-kind experience to increase community impact in Avery County while enjoying some of the best mountain views, restaurants, recreational activities, and meaningful volunteer work with us.

Culpeper Presbyterian Church

Culpeper Presbyterian has been staying and volunteering with us for over a decade! This photo was taken in June 2018 on the front porch of the Mina House, our 47th build.

It is a place where our team feels led by God to do His work with our hands. The time spent together at the Gilmer Center has strengthened the bonds of our church family, and it is a blessing every time I get to go.
